Our Mission
The Delta Omega Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta takes pride in developing a year long relationship with our local CASA chapter, Voices for Children. By volunteering at numerous CASA volunteer training sessions, at their community parenting classes, or with numerous fundraisers, like the Silent Art Auction, Theta's are able to interact with Voices for Children on a weekly basis.
Kappa Alpha Theta is always willing to support the community through the largest student run service project in the nation, The Big Event. Another annual event is Halloween on Sorority Row, where children from the community can come for fun and games in a safe "trick or treating" environment.
Scotty's House: Child Advocacy Center
Scotty's House opened in 1995 as a nonprofit organization that provides a child friendly environment for its child clients. Children are referred to Scotty's House by law enforcement officials, CPS investigators, and medical professionals. Scotty's House is a neutral entity, making no recommendations in any case. It simply provides a supportive and nurturing environment in which a child victim can interact with the necessary agencies. At Scotty's House, the child always comes first.

CASA: Court Appointed Special Advocates
Concerned over making decisions about abused and neglected children's lives without sufficient information, a Seattle judge conceived the idea of using trained community volunteers to speak for the best interests of these children in court. So successful was this Seattle program that soon judges across the country began utilizing citizen advocates. In 1990, the U.S. Congress encouraged the expansion of CASA with passage of the Victims of Child Abuse Act. Today more than 900 CASA programs are in operation, with 62,000 women and men serving as CASA volunteers. CASA is an acronym for Court Appointed Special Advocate.
National CASA has also received support from the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation since 1989. This international women's fraternity selected CASA as its philanthropy and has provided funds for a variety of projects, including start-up grants and a public awareness video.
Voices for Children is our local CASA chapter, providing Court Appointed Special Advocates to abused and neglected children in foster care in Brazos, Burleson and Grimes counties. In FY 2010, Voices for Children's 79 CASA volunteers assisted 183 children, placing 63 of them in safe, permanent homes. CASA volunteers are trained community members who "stand up" for children - giving them a voice in the court system. Each volunteers commits to a child or sibling set, addressing his/her needs and seeking placement in a safe, loving home as quickly as possible.

Theta 5K
On March 31st, 2012 at 9:30 am, Kappa Alpha Theta held its twenty seventh annual run/walk for charity. The event raises funds for CASA and Scotty's House.
As in the past, proceeds will be split between the two philanthropies: Scotty's House and Voices for Children. Voices for Children is our local CASA chapter. CASA is an advocacy center that among many things represents abused children on the stand in the courtroom. Scotty's House is involved in all steps of the advocacy process.
Kappa Alpha Theta is extremely excited to have the opportunity to benefit our philanthropy in this upcoming event. Please come participate in the Theta 5K as we bring the community together to promote such an advantageous cause. Let the race begin!
